| AWS Electronics, a UK-based Contract Electronics Manufacturer
(CEM), is in the middle of a long-term investment programme
into its people, equipment and facilities. Over the past two
years the company has trained most of its staff to IPC 610 and
IPC 620, both to the most demanding level, class 3. At the same
time they have invested heavily into new equipment and training
focusing on lead free assembly, test and inspection; also, sophisticated
IT systems and development of a major cable and harness assembly
facility. They have now invested in a fourth very high standard
surface mount PCB assembly line, to keep up with demand that
has grown by over 25% year-on-year for three years now.
The growth and re-investment marks a formidable turn-around,
since the electronics industry’s low point, following
the twin shocks in 2001 of the dot.com bust and the Twin Towers
terrorist attacks; this commitment is a strong vote of confidence
in both its own future and the future of British manufacturing.
AWS provides medium volume electronic manufacturing services
to demanding industry sectors such as aero-defence, medical,
rail, food & scientific equipment.
Such growth can only come on solid foundations of excellent
performance and strong relationships with their clients, the
majority of whom have been with AWS for over five years. Despite
prevailing attitudes in the country, the Staffordshire firm
fears little from Eastern European and Far Eastern competition,
as these companies cannot offer the same powerful combination
of constantly available dedicated expertise, flexibility and
service.
AWS engineering support is local, being in the same time zone,
language, processes and culture. Production, technical support
and deliveries are extremely responsive to customers’
fluctuating demands - and the attitude of the entire workforce
is can-do, problem solving and positive. The way in which the
company is organised is designed to assure clients of dedicated,
flexible and complete manufacturing services.
AWS has comprehensive and modern facilities for manufacturing
PCB assemblies, electrical and electronic sub-assemblies and
finished products; also, cable and wiring harnesses for the
military, aerospace, medical, rail and other demanding industries.
The uniqueness of AWS, however, is in the broad range of value-added
services that they offer, such as design and production engineering,
parallel engineering with clients’ development teams,
prototype manufacturing, kitting, line-side delivery, after-sales
services such as repairs, refurbishment, upgrades and obsolescence
management.
If you feel that you may benefit from out-sourcing development
and assembly of your products, you are most welcome to discuss
the potential with Mark
